Who We Are
The Union Room is an independently owned and operated event venue in the heart of downtown New London, Connecticut, created around a simple idea: celebrating something important shouldn't require an enormous budget, a rigid package, or a venue that decides every detail for you.
Our space was designed to give people another option.
Today, The Union Room hosts weddings, private celebrations, business meetings, workshops, fundraisers, ticketed events, community programming, performances, and gatherings of all kinds. From an intimate ceremony to a full-day wedding, a weekday team meeting to a Saturday night event, the room is intentionally flexible enough to become something different for every group that walks through the door.
A More Flexible Way to Gather
We believe a venue should support your plans rather than dictate them.
That means flexible layouts, the freedom to bring in your own food and vendors, transparent package pricing, and options for gatherings of different sizes, styles, and budgets.
Some clients arrive with every detail planned. Others have an idea and need help figuring out how to make it work. Both are welcome here.
The Union Room is a hosted venue, which means you also aren't simply handed the keys to an empty room. An on-site host is part of the experience, helping with the space, event flow, vendor access, setup, and the practical details that help your plans come together.
Thoughtfully Different
The Union Room doesn't try to be a traditional ballroom or banquet hall.
The space has its own personality- warm lighting, greenery, layered details, indoor and outdoor areas, and a relaxed atmosphere that can be dressed up or kept simple depending on the occasion.
Our goal is to offer a polished setting without losing the flexibility and personality that make an event feel like yours.
For weddings in particular, that means couples can create a meaningful day without automatically taking on the expense and restrictions that often come with a traditional wedding venue. For community organizers, creatives, and businesses, it means having an approachable downtown space where an idea can actually become an event.
Rooted in Downtown New London
Being part of downtown New London matters to us.
The Union Room supports local vendors, artists, restaurants, small businesses, and event organizers whenever possible, and the people who gather here also bring activity into the surrounding downtown community.
Guests are within walking distance of restaurants and other downtown destinations, with the waterfront and many of New London's attractions nearby.

Meet Your Host
Hi, I’m Alecia, owner and on-site host at The Union Room.
My background has always centered around caring for people, animals, and creating meaningful experiences. I’ve worked in wildlife rescue and hospitality, and over the years I’ve also helped with many fundraisers, catered weddings, and special events. Those experiences taught me how to work with people, think on my feet, and pay attention to the little details that make a big difference.
When I created The Union Room, I wanted to fill a gap I saw in the event industry: beautiful celebrations shouldn’t have to come with an overwhelming price tag. I wanted to create a place where people could have a wedding or special event that still felt thoughtful and beautiful while remaining within reach. With New London so close to our local military community, it was especially important to me to offer couples and families a flexible option that could work with their circumstances, sometimes-tight timelines, and budgets that make sense in today’s economy.
At the heart of it, my goal is to make beautiful events more accessible. I genuinely enjoy bringing people together, meeting new people, helping someone turn an idea into something they can actually see and experience, and finding creative ways to make moments feel special without making things unnecessarily complicated.
When I’m not at the venue, I’m usually spending time with my parrots or working on some kind of creative or crafting project. I’ve always enjoyed making things, trying new ideas, and having a project in progress.
When you book The Union Room, you’re not just renting a room. You’re working directly with me from the planning stages through your event, and I’m there to help with the space, your vendors, and the little logistics that make it all flow.
